We have been doing this mountain bike thing for a long time. It all kicked off back in '84 when we set up shop in Headingley, Leeds. Fast forward to 2001, and after outgrowing the original store ten times over, we made the move ‘up dale’ to Summerbridge. And we didn't stop there - In 2020, we finally opened our first store outside of the North and rolled into Winterborne, Bristol.
We've racked up almost four decades in the cycling biz. That's right, 40 years of selling some of the best mountain bikes, kit and accessories around. So, when it comes to finding your perfect bike, trust us, we know what we are doing! Whether you're new to the sport and need some expert advice on what you need to hit the trails, or a seasoned rider wanting your dream bike, we've got your back.
Most recently, we have changed how our northern location works. Due to the continued growth of our mail order service, Summerbridge is now our Northern HQ, with a full showroom featuring a huge range of Santa Cruz, Forbidden, GT and Stif Squatch bikes. Here we will be offering bike set up and collection, servicing and industry leading rider support from our Northern HQ. Want to come down and check out a new bike, some new components or riding kit? Just give us a shout and book an appointment! Want to demo a bike? No problem, we have a huge selection of current models available. Our Bristol store remains as a traditional retail store, with a huge range of bikes, clothing, kit and accessories - feel free to pop in whenever you like, no need to make an appointment!
2.We ride everything.
Every bike we've got in stock? Handpicked by us. We take serious pride in our shops, both online and in-store - we've handpicked every single thing you could ever want in a bike store and stocked our shelves with the stuff we're totally stoked about and use ourselves nearly every day. Our staff have tested and ridden pretty much every bike we sell, so if you need some real world advice on how a bike rides or what might suit you best, just give us a shout.
3.Demo bikes
We've got demo bikes ready to roll at both our Summerbridge HQ and Winterbourne store! To make sure you're totally sure about your purchase, we've got a full range of demo bikes from Santa Cruz, Forbidden, GT and Stif, so you can try before you buy. Reading reviews and blogs, or getting tips from your riding mates, that's all well and good. But nothing beats the real deal – actually feeling how a bike rides on the trails for yourself. That's why we're all about making it super easy for you to hop on one of our bikes, hit the trails, and draw your own conclusions. Trust us, it's the best way to find your perfect ride.
4.We are riders ourselves.
Everyone who works at Stif lives and breathes riding bikes. It's more than a job for us – for most it's a lifelong passion. And between us we cover a huge spectrum of cycling - from trail riding, XC, adventure/bikepacking, bike parks, skateparks and even racing at enduros at an EWS level. Our staff are not just experts – they're living, breathing biking enthusiasts with a ton of knowledge and experience across every aspect of mountain biking. We fully understand what riders in the UK need, whether it's tips on gear, clothing, or route/trail advice. So, don't be shy – hit us up anytime! We're here to help you make the most of your ride.
5.Rider Support
Here at Stif, rider support is a huge part of what we do. We're not just here to sell you a bike, we're in it for the long haul. Whether you're dropping by the store, firing us an email, or giving us a ring, we're always here to chat bikes. Got questions about setting up your ride? Wondering about upgrades? Need some tech advice? Just get in touch! And If you ever run into any issues with your bike, don't worry.
